Better than incandescents, but still not green enough

Such options as compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) lighting and induction lighting have been in use now for over a decade. They are reliable, cost-effective solutions. But they are seen as a transition from their energy-hungry counterparts—incandescents and HIDs (halogen lights) to the lighting of the future—LEDs. Health considerations and recycling associated with mercury in CFL and HID bulbs still remain a serious problem.
