ov-ledgreenestLight emitting diodes (LEDs ) are small lightbulbs lit by the movement of electrons in a solid semi-conductor material as electricity is passed through it. They are a solid-state technology with no fragile tubes or filaments to break. How durable are they? Their typical 50,000-100,000 hour lifespan is 100 times longer than traditional incandescent lightbulbs and 10 times longer than the best compact fluorescents.

During that extremely long lifespan they will save you energy every moment they are in operation—40-80% versus typical lightbulbs. And they are simply the most environmentally friendly artificial lighting solution available today. LEDs do not contain lead or mercury and emit no infrared (IR) or ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
